Using Your IHLA Funds to Purchase Outschool Classes

FAQ about using your Idaho Home Learning Academy (IHLA) funds to purchase classes on Outschool.

Overview

Education Spending Accounts (ESA), state scholarships, and microgrants allow eligible families to use state-provided funds for educational opportunities, including educational therapies, tutoring, and more.

Idaho families enrolled in Idaho Home Learning Academy (IHLA) can purchase program-funded wallet funds through the Student First Technologies marketplace. This article answers common questions about how to use your IHLA funds on Outschool.

What are Wallet Funds?

Wallet funds are a prepaid Outschool balance that allows parents to explore and enroll in a wide range of online academic, enrichment, and tutoring classes.

When you purchase wallet funds, the specified amount is added to your Outschool account which you can then use to pay for classes.

How do I purchase wallet funds with my IHLA funds?

  1. Enroll in IHLA

  2. Access the SFT Marketplace

    • Once enrolled, you’ll gain access to the Student First Technologies marketplace, where you can allocate your IHLA funds.

  3. Select Outschool as Your Vendor

    • In the marketplace, choose Outschool as a vendor and make a purchase.

  4. Receive Your Wallet Funds

    • If you are new to Outschool, first create an Outschool account using the same email address linked to your IHLA account, then confirm your account.

    • If you already have an Outschool account with that email, your program-funded wallet will be credited within 3 business days.

Once your funds are added, you can log in and begin enrolling in Outschool classes!

How can I use my wallet funds to purchase classes on Outschool?

  • When you enroll in a class, the cost will automatically be deducted from your wallet balance at checkout.

  • You will be able to access the class through your Outschool account as usual.

Why do I need to input my credit card when I have a balance to cover the cost of a class?

We ask for credit card details for identity verification purposes to confirm that you are the learner’s parent or guardian.

  • Your credit card will not be charged unless your purchases exceed your wallet balance.

How do refunds work when I purchase classes with wallet funds?

  • If you cancel a class and are eligible for a refund, the amount will be returned to your wallet balance (not to your IHLA account).

  • You’ll receive an email confirmation when your refund is processed.

  • You can check your balance at any time through your Outschool account or on your account transactions page.

How do classes with recurring weekly payments work with wallet funds?

  • If you enroll in a recurring weekly class, select weekly payments for fixed-length classes, or enroll in tutoring, the weekly payment will be automatically deducted from your wallet balance.

  • If you don’t have enough funds, the remaining amount will be charged to the credit card on file.

Can I purchase an Outschool membership with my IHLA funds?

No, Outschool Memberships cannot be purchased with ESA funds, microgrants, or other public funding.

  • If you'd like to subscribe to a membership, you’ll need to pay with a personal credit card.

  • Important: When using an Outschool Membership, membership credits will always be used first. Once those are depleted, IHLA funds will apply to remaining enrollments.
