Using ClassWallet to purchase Outschool Classes with NYSCIRS Funds

This article is for school representatives participating in the New York State Coalition for Independent and Religious Schools (NYSCIRS) who are purchasing Outschool classes through ClassWallet.

Updated this week

How does it work?

Step 1: Qualify and Receive Funding through NYSCIRS

Once approved, you'll receive access to a marketplace called ClassWallet, where you can use your funds to purchase Outschool classes.

Step 2: Log in to ClassWallet and Select a Learner

  • Log in to your ClassWallet account and navigate to the marketplace.

  • Click Start Shopping.

Step 3: Purchase Outschool Classes Through ClassWallet

  • Click on Outschool within the ClassWallet marketplace. You’ll be redirected to your Outschool account.

  • Find the desired class, select the learner you would like to enroll, and click Checkout with ClassWallet.

Step 4: Order Approval & Enrollment Confirmation

  • Once your program approves the order, you’ll receive confirmation emails from both ClassWallet and Outschool.

  • Your learner will then be officially enrolled in the class.

Step 5: Register your School Account and Complete the COPPA Acknowledgement

  • If your school is new to Outschool, a member of our team will reach out to get your school account set up in our system.

  • Your school will also need to complete a COPPA acknowledgement form in order for learners to attend class.

Important Note: You must complete the account setup and COPPA acknowledgement in order to access classes. If this step is not completed before the scheduled class time, your enrollment will be withdrawn and refunded.

Step 6: Set Up a Learner Login

Set up a learner login so that students can access class using their school email or a username. Learn more here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do refunds work when I purchase through ClassWallet using NYSCIRS funds?

When you receive a refund from Outschool for a class purchased via ClassWallet, you’ll receive a confirmation email immediately. However, these refunds are processed more slowly than regular Outschool refunds.

Note it may take up to 14 business days for refunds to be reflected on your ClassWallet balance. If you haven't seen your refund after 14 business days, please follow up with ClassWallet for more information.

Can I use my stored Outschool balance when purchasing through ClassWallet?

At this time, stored balances will not be applied to an order made using the ClassWallet marketplace.

Can I enroll in a recurring class using the ClassWallet marketplace?

Yes! When you click the subscribe button for a recurring weekly class, you can enroll in up to 18 weeks of classes (or as many weeks as the educator has scheduled). You will be charged for all weeks up front. The day the enrollment ends, you can re-enroll in the class and continue the enrollment for up to 18 weeks.

At this time, because recurring weekly classes are pre-purchased, ClassWallet users cannot pause their enrollments in this class format. The support team is happy to help with any questions about managing your enrollment.

Can I purchase a fixed-length class with weekly payments?

Currently, ClassWallet does not allow recurring payments. For fixed-length classes, school representatives can either purchase the entire class upfront or bulk enroll for anywhere between 4 weeks and 18 weeks of class (up to the number of scheduled weeks).

School representatives should select the number of weeks they would like to enroll in during checkout.Once enrollment ends, a new ClassWallet order must be placed to continue participating in class.

Can I enroll in 1-on-1 tutoring classes using the ClassWallet marketplace?

Yes! School representatives can use NYSCIRS ClassWallet funds to purchase up to 12 weeks of tutoring classes.

The class description page for tutoring classes will indicate class availability, showing dates and times available, similar to this:

When placing the order, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your ClassWallet account.

  2. Visit the class listing page and click View Availability. Select the date you would like tutoring sessions to begin. Then select the time for the tutoring sessions and click Enroll.

  3. Select the number of sessions you would like to book (up to 12) and click Next.

  4. Last, complete the remaining ClassWallet order process, and you will be all set!

If the educator is unavailable on any of the dates/times you’ve selected, this will be indicated as follows, and the total check-out price will be adjusted to reflect the sessions that were not booked.

Once you’ve completed your order on ClassWallet, you’ll receive an email from both ClassWallet and Outschool confirming the enrollment. You can then access the class at start time through your Outschool account as normal.

Note: If you would like to enroll in the same tutoring class more than one day per week, separate ClassWallet orders must be placed for each day.

Why is a specific class not available?

Each state program has its own rules regarding which classes can be purchased with program funds. To understand what is eligible, please contact your state’s program directly for details.

Additionally, some states require a minimum booking window — a set period of time for reviewing and approving class purchases. If a class starts before this approval window closes, it may not be available for purchase.

For more information on eligibility and approval timelines, please contact your state program directly.

How can I tell if a pending order has been completed correctly?

Once you place an order through ClassWallet, you’ll receive an order confirmation email confirming that it was submitted. You’ll receive another notification once your order is either approved or rejected.

To check the status of your order at any time, log in to your ClassWallet portal.

Can I use my ClassWallet funds to purchase an Outschool Membership?

No, ClassWallet funds cannot be used to purchase an Outschool Membership. However, memberships can be purchased separately using a personal credit card.

How do ClassWallet purchases affect membership usage?

Classes purchased through ClassWallet are processed separately from Outschool Memberships.

  • Classes purchased through ClassWallet do not deduct from an Outschool Membership balance.

  • Only classes purchased directly through an Outschool account will count toward membership usage.

  • Classes ordered via ClassWallet are paid for using program funds and do not apply toward membership credits.
