Every learner at Outschool has a dedicated space designed just for them. This is where learners log in to view their schedule, explore learner tools, and enter class.
Understanding the Learner Space
The Learner Space is designed specifically for learners. It gives learners a dedicated place to view their schedule, enter class, and use Outschool in a learner-focused environment.
Because this space is designed for learners, it helps them use Outschool more independently. Even if your learner is too young to use the space on their own, please switch to this space when your learner uses Outschool.
From the Learner Space, learners can browse classes, favorite classes that appeal to them, and message teachers privately. If your learner messages a teacher from their Learner Space, you’ll still be notified of the conversation as their parent or guardian.
Additional notes:
Learners cannot sign up for or purchase classes from the Learner Space.
To switch to a learner’s space, use the switcher in your account menu.
Entering the Classroom from the Learner Space
Learners enter their enrolled classes from the learner space. If you're in the parent view, you can enter the classroom as your learner by clicking Enter Classroom as Learner on the enrollment management page.
Depending on the class format, the classroom will include different learning and communication tools for learners.
Exploring Tools in the Learner Space
In the Learner Space, learners can use tools designed to help them personalize their experience and explore their interests on Outschool. Avatar Builder lets learners create a custom profile picture from their Learner Profile. The Learner Interest Explorer, also called the Mix-Up Machine, helps learners discover new interests by combining subjects in playful ways. Quiz Writer helps learners explore topics they’re interested in by taking a quiz.
Accessing the Parent Space
Parents can switch between parent and learner space at any time. To help prevent learners from accessing the parent space, Outschool includes built-in controls and optional settings for added protection.
Switching Back to the Parent Space
Parents can switch from parent to learner space and back at any time. Because parent mode is not designed for learners under 13, we warn younger learners that it is not for them and put in place controls to help prevent them from switching to and accessing parent mode.
The default control requires you to solve a multiplication problem to switch from learner space to parent mode.
Managing Parent Space Access
You can adjust parent space access settings if you want added protection when switching back from learner space.
Setting Up Password Protection
If the multiplication problem is too easy for your learner, you can change this control through your account settings to require that you re-enter your account password when switching from the learner space to parent mode.
If you only log into Outschool with your third-party account (Facebook, Google, or Apple), you’ll need to first set an account password in your account settings using the Change your Password button. Once you’ve added your account password, you can check the box under Learner Account Settings to require it when switching back to your parent space.
If you don’t use a third-party account to log in to Outschool, you can still set your password protection here at any time in your account settings.
Using Password Protection
Remember to click outside of the field anywhere on the page to save your settings. When transitioning back to the parent view, you may see the logged-out Outschool.com page briefly before returning to your parent home page.
If this setting is on, you’ll be prompted to enter your account password when switching from your learner space to your parent space.
