How Payments Work on Outschool

This article explains how payments, charges, fees, taxes, refunds, and receipts work on Outschool.

Updated today

Payment Providers and Accepted Payment Methods

We accept payments using major credit and debit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Education Savings Account (ESA) funds, or charter school funds.

Card and digital wallet payments are processed through our payment provider, Stripe.

Apple Pay

If Apple Pay is available on your device, you can pay with Apple Pay instead of a credit card during checkout. This option appears only when using Safari on Mac OS or iOS.

If you choose Apple Pay for a recurring payment, future charges will continue to be processed through Apple Pay.

Saving a Card for Later

Selecting the Save for later checkbox securely saves your credit card information to your account, allowing for faster purchases in the future.

You can update your saved card at any time. Learn more about updating your credit card.

Types of Fees

The total price paid for a class includes the class price plus any applicable fees.

Class Price: The price the teacher sets for the class.

Marketplace Fee: A service fee charged by Outschool based on a percentage of the class price (before any discounts are applied and excluding applicable taxes). The Marketplace Fee percentage is shown at checkout.

Outschool may change service fees in accordance with the Terms of Service and Outschool Membership Terms.

Sales Tax on Outschool Purchases

Outschool purchases in some regions may include sales tax. Any applicable tax is calculated automatically based on the billing ZIP code or postal code associated with your saved payment method.

When sales tax applies, it appears as a separate line item at checkout and on your receipt.

Paying for Classes from Outside the U.S.

Outschool is a U.S.-based company, but learners are located worldwide. All prices default to U.S. Dollars (USD), but families can pay in the following currencies:

USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, KRW, TWD, JPY, HKD, and EUR.

You can select your preferred currency from the Language and Region menu.

When paying in a supported non-USD currency, the charge appears in that currency on your receipt, confirmation email, and Transactions page. Outschool does not charge foreign transaction fees, and refunds are processed without foreign exchange fees. If you select a currency that Outschool does not support, the charge is processed in USD.

Note: Membership plans are available for purchase in U.S. Dollars (USD) only and cannot be purchased in other currencies at this time.

Using Learner-Specific Debit Cards

Outschool does not support using different saved payment methods for individual learners.

If multiple learners require different payment methods, contact Outschool Support.

Receiving Refunds

When a payment is refunded, you will receive an email confirming the refund amount. Refund details are also visible on the receipt in your Transactions page.

Refunds appear on the receipt as soon as they are issued. Depending on your financial institution, it may take up to 10 business days for the refund to appear on your statement.

Some refunds are processed as reversals, which means you may not see a separate refund line item, but the amount will be credited back to your card.

If the card used for the original payment is no longer active, contact your bank or credit card provider to retrieve the funds.

Viewing Receipts and Transaction History

To view receipts and payment history, select Transactions from your parent dashboard. From the Transactions page, select View Receipt to see purchase details for that payment.
