Types of Classes You Can Enroll In

Recurring Weekly Classes

On the class listing page for a Recurring Weekly class, you’ll see a Subscribe button. After you click this button, follow the prompts in the pop-up window.

If a class accepts early enrollment, you’ll have the option to choose a future start date for your learner’s first meeting. You can schedule this up to 4 weeks in advance, as long as seats are available.

The first week’s credits are deducted at the time of booking, and future weekly credits are deducted on Sundays once your learner begins attending. Refunds follow our Class Cancellation Policy, which applies from the date you sign up for the class.

Fixed-Length Classes

On the class listing page for a Fixed-Length class, you’ll see an Enroll button. After you click this button, follow the prompts in the pop-up window.

How weekly payments work for fixed-length classes

For Fixed-Length classes that offer weekly payments, weekly charges are installments toward the total cost of the class, not payments for individual meetings. Weekly payments do not pause or prorate, even if a class meeting is canceled or rescheduled during a given week.

What happens if a fixed-length class meeting is rescheduled or canceled

Fixed-length classes include a set number of meetings that families pay for over time. If a scheduled meeting is canceled, the teacher may provide a make-up session as needed to ensure the full number of class sessions is delivered.

If a meeting is rescheduled and a family cannot attend the new meeting time, the family remains eligible for a refund for the impacted meeting in accordance with Outschool’s refund policies.

Tutoring Classes

On the class listing page for tutoring classes, you’ll see a See All Available Times option. This is where families can enroll in tutoring classes and choose how meetings will be scheduled.

Enrolling in tutoring classes

When enrolling for the first time, families can choose from the following options:

  • A single meeting or a block of meetings (4, 8, or 12 weeks)

    • Families can enroll in one meeting or a short series of meetings directly from the class listing page.

  • Recurring meetings

    • Recurring meetings continue weekly until the enrollment is canceled.

    • Families are responsible for managing and stopping the enrollment when they no longer need the class.

If you sign up for a series of meetings, the first class fee is charged at checkout. All future meetings are automatically charged weekly on Sundays.

Managing meetings for an active enrollment

Once a learner is already enrolled in a tutoring class, meetings are managed from the class management page, not the class listing page.

  • Add Meeting

    • Allows you to add a single additional meeting based on the teacher’s available times.

  • Extend

    • Allows you to extend the enrollment and make the class recurring through a selected end date.

    • Future meetings will appear automatically as they fall within the visible date range.

The Add Meeting and Extend options serve different purposes and may show different results depending on how the enrollment is being managed.

Self-Paced Classes

On the class listing page for Self-Paced classes, you’ll see an Enroll Now, Start Anytime button. After you click this button, follow the prompts in the pop-up window.

When you enroll on a weekly basis, your first lesson will be available immediately, and new lessons will unlock every seven days from your start date. For fixed-length classes, enrollment renewals occur each Sunday evening (Pacific time), so billing and lesson release schedules may differ depending on when you start your enrollment.

If you applied credits toward an upfront enrollment for a Self-Paced class, this grants immediate access to all class materials.

Chat Groups

With Chat Groups, credits are deducted monthly for access.

Chat Groups require a monthly credit deduction, which occurs on the 1st of each month to maintain access. When you first enroll in a Chat Group, membership credits are applied immediately to cover the cost for the rest of the current month, and the amount is prorated based on how many days remain. After that, the full monthly credit amount will be automatically deducted on the 1st of each month as long as you’re enrolled and your membership is active.

Using Credits to Enroll in Classes

When you're ready to shop, browse Outschool listings and find the ones you'd like to enroll your learners in. All listings will show the number of credits it will take to enroll in the class. All enrollments and auto-renewals are subject to the Class Cancellation Policy. Learn more about managing your class enrollments here.

All enrollments will be deducted from your membership credit balance. If your credits don't fully cover the enrollment, Outschool will automatically deduct from your stored balance if you have one (such as Outschool vouchers, redeemed gift cards, etc.) or your card on file for the remaining cost at a rate of $0.50 per credit.

For example, if a class requires 100 credits to enroll, but you only have 50 credits in your membership credit balance, the remaining 50 credits will be charged to your stored payment method. In this case, you would be charged an additional $25 for the remaining 50 credits.

Weekly Credit Deductions

If you don’t have enough credits for your Sunday class renewals, we’ll attempt to charge your card on file to cover the remaining balance. If the payment doesn’t go through, we won’t be able to complete any of your upcoming class renewals, since Sunday renewals are processed together in one transaction rather than separately.

If your enrollment is stopped on Sunday due to a payment issue for a Recurring Weekly class, Outschool will temporarily hold your learner's spot in class. If you wish to remain in the class(es), please add additional credits or update your payment method and resume your enrollment by Sunday at 4pm PST/5pm PDT.

If your enrollment experiences a payment issue for a Fixed-Length class, the system will automatically withdraw your learner from the class and notify you of the failed payment.

For Fixed-Length classes that accept weekly enrollments, credit deductions occur each Sunday until the full class cost is covered, even if no meeting is scheduled during a given week. If you wish to remain in the class(es), please add additional credits or update your payment method and contact Outschool Support to reinstate the enrollment.

If the number of credits remaining in your current membership plan is not enough and you do not want to purchase additional credits, you can cancel your enrollments from the homepage to ensure that no extra credits are required for your current enrollments.

Upfront Credit Deductions

For upfront enrollments, your membership credits cover the full class credit requirement at once. Depending on the class length, this could use a significant portion of your current billing cycle's credits.

Enroll Late and Join Classes in Progress

If a class accepts late enrollments, view the in-progress sections below the upcoming sections in the list of available times. View the section details to determine the number of meetings remaining.

If the class accepts weekly credit deductions, your first week's enrollment is prorated based on the number of meetings remaining in the current week. If you enroll in the class upfront, your total enrollment is prorated based on the number of meetings remaining in the class.

Once enrolled, Learners can see the welcome message and any new posts, announcements, or recordings. They will only have access to content shared after they enroll.
