Cancellation Policies for Outschool Members

Understanding cancellation policies for members when canceling membership plans or class enrollments.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

When subscribed to an Outschool membership, credits are added to your membership credit balance each month, to use for class enrollments. This article outlines the policies for canceling your Outschool membership and class enrollments made with membership credits.

If you're not an Outschool member and pay directly for classes, click here for information about class cancellation policies.

Membership Plan Cancellation Policy

Cancel within 24 hours of your first month’s purchase for a full refund, provided you haven’t used credits to enroll. Renewal charges are not eligible for a refund.

Membership Cancellation Guidelines

  • Membership Refund Eligibility: Cancel within 24 hours of your first month’s purchase for a full refund, as long as you haven’t used credits to enroll in any classes. If credits have been used, a refund will not be available. To request a refund, please contact Outschool Support.

  • Reactivated Memberships: If you cancel and later reactivate your membership, the 24-hour refund policy no longer applies. A refund will not be available if you cancel your reactivated plan.

  • Membership Renewal Charges: Renewal charges are non-refundable.

Class Cancellation Policy for Members

Cancel within 24 hours of credit deduction to have credits returned to your credit balance. If the class meets or access begins within 24 hours of enrollment, cancel before it begins to have credits returned.

Class Cancellation Guidelines

  • Cancel within 24 hours of enrollment or the class's recurring, weekly renewal on Sundays to have credits returned to your membership credit balance.

  • Cancel before the class meets if it is scheduled to meet within 24 hours of enrollment or the class's recurring, weekly renewal on Sundays to have credits returned to your membership credit balance.

  • Cancel before access to content begins (for self-paced enrollments) if access is scheduled to start within 24 hours of enrollment or the class's recurring, weekly renewal on Sundays to have credits returned to your membership credit balance.

Returned Credits

  • Credits returned to your membership balance can be used for future class enrollments as long as your membership is active.

  • If you cancel your membership, any unused credits will be lost at the end of the billing cycle.

  • Rollover Maximums: Unused credits are subject to rollover maximums, meaning only a certain number of credits can be carried over to the next month. Learn more here about rollover maximums.

Automatic Credit Back for Enrollments

You may be eligible to receive credits back according to the Class Cancellation Policy for Members (as outlined above). To cancel your enrollment, click the class title on your schedule and visit the enrollment management page.

Note that if you are outside the policy’s cancellation window, the withdraw button will only remove your learner from class and not issue credits back. Once you’ve clicked the withdraw button, fill out the form that pops up to withdraw from class.

After the first meeting, parents enrolled in a recurring weekly class will see a stop subscription button instead of withdraw on the enrollment management page. Use this button to prevent any future weekly deductions, starting with the following billing period, which rolls over Sunday mornings Pacific time. You can use this to stop future deductions at any time.

If you transfer into a class section and then withdraw, the timing of the Class Cancellation Policy will apply based on the start time of the earliest class section you enrolled in, as opposed to the class section you were transferred into. For example, if you originally enrolled in a December 1st section and transferred into a December 15th section of the same class, the cancellation policy is based on the December 1st section.

All Credit Back for Enrollments

The following situations guarantee parents a full return of credits used to enroll outside the Class Cancellation Policy. Contact us or click Help on the Outschool website if you need assistance receiving credits back for any of these reasons:

  • Parents receive credits back if the teacher cancels before the class’s first meeting.

  • If a teacher misses a one-time class meeting, parents may request credits back or wait for the teacher to reschedule the class.

  • If a teacher changes the date or time of a class meeting before the class starts, parents may request credits back.

Prorated Credit Back for Enrollments

The following situations guarantee parents a prorated return of credits used to enroll based on the number of live meetings in a class’s section. These policies apply outside the Class Cancellation Policy and should go through Outschool Support. Contact us or click Help on the Outschool website if you need assistance receiving credits back for any of these reasons:

  • If part of a class is rescheduled, you will receive, upon request, a prorated amount of credits back based on the number of rescheduled meetings you did not attend.

  • If the teacher doesn’t teach the number of meetings listed, you will receive a prorated amount of credits back upon request.

  • If the teacher cancels a class in progress, you will receive a prorated amount of credits back based on the percentage of canceled meetings.

Additional Policies

  • If your learner misses a class meeting, you are not entitled to credits back. If you miss 3 consecutive class meetings without communicating with the teacher, you forfeit the class enrollment, and the teacher may cancel the class or withdraw your learner. Your teacher may, however, transfer your learner to another available section or provide a class recording at their discretion.

  • If your learner does not join the meeting 10 minutes after the class starts, the teacher may cancel it at their discretion. This is considered a missed meeting, and you are not entitled to credits back.

  • Credits backs are not guaranteed if your learner misses a past or future class meeting due to a schedule conflict.

  • Teachers may transfer you to another section of the same class with your consent.

  • If your learner’s meeting time changes because of daylight saving time starting or ending for several world regions, you are not entitled to credits back if they cannot attend. Please review your learner’s schedule beforehand to ensure you know when classes are meeting.

Note that in rare cases, if a parent requests an excessive number of credit returns, they may be disqualified from receiving future credit returns.
