Overview of the self-paced class update
Self-paced classes are moving to the updated classroom experience. By the end of July, classes using the older self-paced classroom will no longer accept new enrollments, but older classrooms will remain accessible for currently enrolled learners.
To keep an existing self-paced class open to new enrollments after this change takes effect, update and publish it in the updated experience. Existing class content will transfer during migration, and you can still update existing classes after this change takes effect.

What’s included in the updated self-paced experience
Flexible content blocks: Build your class using video, reading, and assignment blocks, each designed for a specific type of learning.
Drag-and-drop builder: Easily rearrange your content by dragging and reordering blocks.
Preview Classroom: See your classroom exactly as new learners will see it before publishing.
Draft and publish: Changes are saved as drafts until you publish, so you can update and review your class before it’s visible to new learners.
Automatic progress tracking: A visible progress bar updates as learners move through the class, so they can track what’s done and what’s next.
Integrated messaging: Communicate with learners through activity-level messaging tied to specific content blocks, along with general messaging for updates and check-ins.
How to update a self-paced class to the updated experience
You can update an existing self-paced class using the migration tool. From the Classroom tab of your class, click Migrate to V2 to create a draft version in the updated experience.
Before publishing, review your class to make sure everything appears as expected. Check that your content is organized correctly, that videos and materials are in the right place, and that any instructions or assignments are clear to learners. Some content may appear slightly different in the updated format, so it’s a good idea to review before publishing.
When you publish, new learners enroll in the updated version of your class. Existing learners continue in the original version they enrolled in.

Are self-paced classes changing overall in the updated experience?
How families enroll in and access self-paced classes is not changing. Learners still move through classes at their own pace. These updates reflect changes to how classes are built and experienced.
Why do some of my self-paced classes use a different experience?
Existing classes use the previous classroom experience until you update them, while new classes are created in the updated experience. By the end of July, classes using the older self-paced classroom will no longer accept new enrollments.
Will existing self-paced enrollments change when I update a class?
Your existing enrollments remain unchanged, and current learners continue using the version of the class they originally enrolled in. After you publish, new learners enroll in the updated version of your class. The end-of-July change does not affect current learners or remove access to older self-paced classrooms.
Can older self-paced classes still accept new enrollments after the end of July?
No. By the end of July, classes using the older self-paced classroom will no longer accept new enrollments. After this change takes effect, only classes using the updated self-paced experience will be able to accept new enrollments.
Can I go back to the previous self-paced experience?
Once you publish the updated version of your class, it cannot be switched back to the previous experience. We recommend reviewing your class carefully before publishing.
How long do I have to update older self-paced classes?
You can update existing self-paced classes before or after this change takes effect. However, if you want an older self-paced class to continue accepting new enrollments after the end of July, you’ll need to update and publish it in the updated experience. Older self-paced classrooms will remain accessible after this change takes effect.
What happens to self-paced classes that are currently saved as drafts?
If you have a self-paced class that is currently saved as a draft, it remains in the experience in which it was created. You can continue building and editing it. After this change takes effect, only classes using the updated self-paced experience will be able to accept new enrollments. If you want the class to accept new enrollments after that, update and publish it in the updated experience.
Will I lose self-paced class content if I do not update before the end of July?
No. Your class content will not be lost if you do not update before the end of July. Older self-paced classrooms will remain accessible, and existing class content will transfer when you use the migration tool.
Can I switch a class I created in the updated self-paced experience back to the previous experience?
No. Once a class is created or published in the updated self-paced experience, it cannot be switched back to the previous experience. We recommend reviewing migrated classes carefully before publishing.
How do I know if my self-paced class uses the updated experience?
Classes using the updated experience include features such as content blocks that you can drag and rearrange, enhanced messaging, and the ability to preview the classroom.
Will families see a difference when enrolling in updated self-paced classes?
There are no changes to how families enroll in or access self-paced classes. Families may notice differences in the classroom experience if their learner is enrolled in a mix of classes that use both the previous and updated experiences.
