Families who subscribe to an Outschool membership receive monthly credits for any class and learner on their account. This gives families flexibility and savings, simplifying the enrollment process.
For you as a teacher, this can help create a more predictable enrollment process for families, allowing you to focus on delivering exceptional learning experiences and building lasting connections with learners.
Please note: Membership plans are being gradually introduced, so some families and teachers may not see the option to join immediately, while others will have access. Stay tuned as we continue to offer this option to more families.
Please refer to this article for detailed information about how family memberships work, including how parents manage their credits and membership plans.
How Families Use Membership Credits to Enroll
Families use their membership credits to enroll any learner on their account in any class, similar to how they would enroll with direct payment. They can choose between flexible options like weekly or fixed-length enrollments. Depending on the enrollment type, credits will be deducted all at once or on a recurring basis.
Built-In Savings: Memberships offer built-in savings, including discounts on membership plans and the removal of the marketplace fee for enrollments. Families cannot use coupons at checkout. Outschool understands that offering coupons is an essential business practice for many teachers. We are exploring ways for teachers to provide discounts to membership families in the future.
Class Price Display: Membership families will see class prices displayed in credits instead of their local currency.
Identifying & Managing Membership Credit Enrollments
When managing a learner’s enrollment on the Learners tab, the Paid by section will show credits instead of USD, indicating the family used membership credits to enroll in the class.
Handling Refunds for Membership Credit Enrollments
Refund Calculation: Similar to refunding enrollments paid in USD, calculate refunds as a percentage of the total enrollment. For example, if the enrollment is 100 credits:
A 25% refund is 25 credits.
A 50% refund is 50 credits.
Mixed Payment Methods: Treat each payment method as a separate transaction if a family uses both credits and a saved payment method for enrollment (e.g. if they run out of credits). Refund both parts of the enrollment if a full refund is needed, or you can issue the prorated refund from one or both parts of the enrollment.
What This Means for Teachers:
Consistent Refund Process: Calculate refunds as a percentage of the total enrollment, whether enrolled with direct payment or membership credits.
Clear Communication: You can inform families clearly, such as: "I’ve returned 25 credits to your membership credit balance for the canceled meeting."
Understanding Teacher Earnings for Membership Credit Enrollments
When a family enrolls using membership credits, your earnings remain unaffected. Your payout is determined by the class price you set and will be calculated in USD, regardless of how the family enrolls.
Teacher Earnings: The Teacher Earnings section will display the enrollment amount, any refund adjustments, and your payout in USD.
What This Means for Teachers:
Consistent Payouts: Your payout remains in USD, no matter how the parent enrolls (credits or direct payment).
Consistent Earnings Display: All earnings are displayed in USD, providing a clear view of the total payout amount.
All teacher earnings are subject to the Teacher Addendum and the Teacher Earnings and Payments Policy.
