Ad blockers and privacy plugins
These browser extensions interfere with the Outschool website and break our customer support tool. Each plugin offers the ability to 'whitelist' websites so the site can operate without interference. We strongly recommend that you whitelist Outschool.
Live online classes
Most Outschool classes are live online classes, meaning they meet using video chat.
For the best experience, you should be using a computer or device with a microphone and webcam. Most laptops, tablets, and phones now have these built-in. Older computers might have them as separate attachments. It's possible to participate without a webcam, but it won't feel as social. Teachers should use a laptop, but learners can more easily use a tablet or even a modern smartphone to join live classes. Each learner should have access to an individual device to join a class.
For reliable video chat, the most important thing is to have a reliable internet connection. Faster is better, but most DSL and Cable internet plans will be sufficient.
If you want to test your internet connection speed, you can do so using Speedtest.net. A suggested minimum speed for reliable video chat is 1Mbps for both upload and download.
Outschool uses an app called Zoom as its video chat platform. Zoom works with all kinds of devices and operating systems. If you want you can read more about the Zoom technical requirements, but you don't need to - for 99% of people, it just works. You will be prompted to download Zoom the first time you join an Outschool class.
Flexible schedule classes
Flex schedule classes don't have any pre-scheduled meeting times. In general communication occurs through email, discussion forms, or other websites, so there are no particular technical requirements.
